Versus

In the battle of Cute Vs. Cute, who will prevail?

In one corner, we have Pepsi.

A suave, sophisticated feline, she has years of experience in winning hearts and bending humans to her will. Her weapons? Excessive fluff and a wide vocabulary of 'Maos' (meow is so 1990s). After 3.5 years as an only child, will she ever accept a 'little' brother?

And the contender is a force to be reckoned with.

Chowder! 18 pounds of waggy-tailed fury! Newly recovered from a bout of Parvo and an upper respiratory infection, he is ready to join the family and make new friends! All he wants to do is play, but will his happy-go-lucky attitude win him a spot in his older sister's heart?

So far, there have only been 2 rounds in the the C vs. C battle, with no clear winner, 1 clear loser (Pepsi urinated all over her former bed, which was subsequently trashed and thus the loser), and no clear indication of how future encounters will progress. Stay tuned for updates on our furry contenders- will they become friends forever {or at least tolerant of each other} or will we have a hairy battle for dominance?

Since you asked...

Puppy pictures!!!!

Chowder isn't feeling 100% better yet- we finished giving him his anti-nausea meds yesterday, and since then he hasn't had much of an appetite and he has parted ways with his water several times. However, we've given him some sub-q fluids and he is happy and cuddly (though not as rambunctious as he otherwise might be).

Don't worry {and I know you were}- I'll keep you updated on his progress. Mr. Pony and I feel like horrible parents because we can't make him feel any better right now. The worst part of owning a pet is that you can't ask them 'Where does it hurt?' {with any expectation of an answer}, so when they feel ill, it makes you {me} feel so helpless!

*sigh* Less than a week and we are already hooked on puppy love. *fingers crossed* that he starts feeling better soon!

Yay for Chowder!!

No, not this chowder.

THIS Chowder!!

We adopted a puppy! He is 17.1 pounds of fluffy, waggy cuteness! He is a Border Collie/Blue Heeler/Australian Shepherd {at least 2 of those are in there somewhere} and we fell in love with him at the shelter!

He had to go get little bits snipped off, and they called after the surgery to say that while he'd come through the procedure ok, they'd tested him for canine parvovirus which has a disturbingly high mortality rates in little cuddly critters like him, so we had to choose- treat him or send him 'back to the shelter' {in other words, he'd be put to sleep}. So... we treated him- once I have named an animal, I can't just walk away from the critter, and Mr. Pony was similarly caught in the web of cuteness. Fortunately, the vet caught things so early that, as of right now, he seems to be 100% awesome! He never exhibited any of the major unpleasant symptoms {leaking from both ends, extreme lethargy}, and we are enjoying welcoming the new addition to our home!

Even Pepsi has accepted him with a minimum of condescension- she hasn't hissed at him even once, and has deigned to look in his direction on at least 5 occasions.

Once I get my new camera (if it ever comes), I'll post more pictures of our furry Chowder beast!

Foodalicious

Have I mentioned that Mr. Pony cooks? I have? Ok then- have I mentioned that he cooks really really superbly? Probably:) What can I say- I love having my own personal chef!

This week, we get potato chowder and cheddar cheese popovers, tacos al pastor, Tibetan beef and Szechwan pepper dumplings with spicy tomato sauce and buffalo chicken sandwiches. I know, I know- it isn't fair, but just wipe the drool on your sleeve and no one will notice.

The tragedy? My camera body is still back ordered. {tears} Hopefully she ships soon and I can share our fabulous feasts with the world again!

Hmm... I think I'll see if Mr. Pony can whip up some chocolate dessert to make me feel better about my camera-less state.

Oh, and did I mention that I L.O.V.E. that he cooks for me:b

Ups and downs

Mr. Pony recently surprised me by clicking the 'buy' button while we were looking at a lens I've been drooling over.

All the reviews have shown that, for the money, the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II is one of the fastest lenses available and it gives fabulous image quality. It runs about $100 on Amazon (cheap for good glass), and was in stock for 2nd day shipping (courtesy a free Amazon Prime trial). So I got the new toy just a couple days ago, and last night as I attempted to take some festive photos and....

The camera died.

Nope, I didn't stutter. I've had my pretty hand-me-down camera for about 4 months, but it was a trusty first generation 10D. Solid body, good reviews, but still, it was a 7 year old DSLR camera and it sputtered, kicked, and finally cried 'UNCLE!!!'

So now what? We messed around with it for ages {a couple hours} this morning, and I searched dpreview to no avail. But from the symptoms, it looks like I'm going to have to upgrade. {gulp} I was quite pleased with spending {small} oodles on lenses to go with my camera-y goodness and learning how to use and oldie-but-goodie camera body.

So now I'm back to looking at camera choices again- oh poor me:). No decisions have been made, but I have my eye on a newer generation (as in released in April 09) Canon model that had lots of bells, whistles and completely incomprehensible buttons. I will feel suitably fancy, even if I'm completely {for now} clueless on how to get high quality shots!

Back to the drawing (shooting?) board on cameras. The $$ isn't fun, but it is entertaining to look at new toys!
